Irrigation season of Armavir marz has been completed much earlier. Some peasants have not sowed the fields with autumn wheat. Most probably, lack of irrigation water will lead to peasants’ refusal to sow autumn wheat.
In previous years totally 45 thousand out of 54 thousand hectare of agricultural land was cultivated in Armavir marz. Year after year peasants gave up cultivating their plots considering it as a non-profitable business. Today 40 percent of agricultural land (18 thousand hectare) was turned into a desert. Logics say that the decrease of cultivated plots should lead to over irrigation, but just the opposite happens. On the one hand the cultivated plots are getting decreased; on the other hand the volume of irrigation water is getting reduced rapidly. And this is in the case when Armenia makes investments annually to improve the irrigation water system and develop new water lines.
There are almost 600 deep wells in Armavir marz by means of which annually 800 million cubic meter of water has been pushed out of the lithosphere. 250 million cubic meter of water is required to carry out the irrigation in Armavir marz. Here a question arises why Armavir marz faces irrigation water problem.
The answer is one. Deep wells of Armavir marz are getting dry. Masis region of Ararat marz, in the neighborhood of Armavir marz, is situated, the geographical location of which is 33 meter lower than Armavir marz surface. It has many spontaneous deep wells and the water is generally used for fishing industry. Each year 1,5 billion cubic meter of water goes to fishing industry.
Today spontaneous deep wells are getting drilled and year after year well water is being reduced. 6-7 years ago 2 billion cubic meter of water was pushed out of the lithosphere for fishing industry. Today because of wells doubling only 1,5 billion cubic meter of water is getting pushed out. This means that the general pressure of the wells of the earth lithosphere is reduced which is ruinous for the agriculture and ecology itself.
What is happening? Water is getting pushed out of the lithosphere and poured into deep wells where fish is produced. Then water flows to Araqs River. Here migration of water mass happens that is called violation of balance by the laws of nature having destructive consequences.
But why is the water squandered in the field of fishing industry? Peasants pay 11-15 AMD per cubic meter for irrigation and per cubic meter of water in the field of fishing industry is 1-5 luma.
This is the reason that Armenia pours 1,5 billion cubic meter of sweet water to Araqs River that flows to Caspian Sea. There is no difference between the composition of this water and the one being traded in 1 euro per liter in Jordan.
Our neighbor country, Turkey, is carrying out construction of 4 deep wells on Araqs River whose general capacity will be 2 billion cubic meter. It is predictable that especially in summer months Araqs River will be like a small dry stream.
Dry deep wells and occupied water of Araqs River by our neighbor country will lead to complete desertisation of Ararat Valley.
